Lost Cause
I was born a lost cause see,
oh, ma mama told me so every day since I was three,
now I’m old,
took half ma youth to make believe,
another half to fill the hole
Oh, I worked so hard, worked so hard to find my peace
oh, Lord, I worked hard, and still
it’s sometimes hard to get outta bed in one piece
and now that I’ve seen some sunlight
I still cry every day for all the time I’ve missed
But I ain’t no toothpaste on the shelf baby,
squeezed a bit so the market won’t sell no more,
I ain’t no toothpaste on the shelf,
squeezed a bit, so go ahead and put me on the bottom drawer,
and even if I were a paste babe,
I’m that special kinda paste you’ve been looking for
we’ve been given a throne, love,
it just got some mending for us to do,
oh, I’ve been given a throne,
I just got some mending to do, Lord
see this room is filled with abandoned thrones baby
they all need a bit of mending, and that’s the truth
ooh, I thought I was a lost cause, see
ooh, I thought I was a lost cause, see,
I was wrong,
took half my life to make believe,
another half to fill the hole
We've waited a long time for Thee Holy Strangers' second album! But yes, it was worth the wait, the band delivered a sophomore made of gold. Rocky, dusty gold, mind you, crude yet pure and beautiful! This is an indie-rock anthem with the distinguish americana style that the band established from the debut. It seems to have a conceptual flow and works really like a time-stopping spell. Great job, it's such a pleasure to hear THS music once again! BoneWalker
